Wireless Technology

The engineers at SeaMobile have made a career of building and managing wireless networks around the world for companies including McCaw Cellular Communications, AT&T Wireless, British Telecom, Nextel and Cingular. Because of their pioneering work in the wireless field, they understand what is required to achieve the best in voice quality and data delivery. What they’ve done so well on land is available from SeaMobile at sea. We start by planning and designing solutions with our customers, then we build and operate them as only our experienced team can do.

SeaMobile offers two types of wireless equipment depending upon the size and type of vessel being installed. For larger ships such as cruise or military ships, our equipment is configured in a rack that fits easily into the ship’s equipment room. Our combination of cabling and antenna placement provides coverage based on customer requirements. This includes the ability to configure our proprietary Quiet Zones™ to create areas of the ship where wireless phones and devices do not work. The system is encrypted for security and provides redundancy for reliability. A base station on the ship works just as it would on land allowing wireless users on the SeaMobile network to enjoy the same quality of voice and data services that they do at home. Our “White Glove” installation can be completed at sea or in dry dock based on the needs of our customers and their passengers and crew.

For smaller vessels, such as yachts, our wireless solution is more compact. Equipment to enable the wireless service is composed of two key pieces that connect into the satellite system. These are an AltoBridge server and a BTS (or radio) that includes the antennas. The BTS communicates with the wireless phone and the server connects the BTS to the satellite and ground based system enabling wireless users to send and receive calls and data. It’s easy to use with the flip of a switch.

No matter which solution our customers need, the quality is the same. We monitor and manage our network every day of the year. We call this “health checks” and the engineers at SeaMobile continuously run diagnostics on our network. Problems that arise are generally resolved within minutes because our solution is designed to be “self monitoring” and with built-in redundancy. Our goal is to fix problems before our customers know they exist.

The unparalleled integration of SeaMobile’s premier wireless service with the powerful MTN global network can keep people at the center of everything while in the middle of nowhere.
